This room wasn't originally a living room, but an earthen storehouse. It has the deepest history in Shimamo-ya and is of a rare size in the Narai-juku area.
The thick, touchable roof beams are emblematic of the building; they have watched over the history of this house for more than 150 years.
The open-air bath is surrounded by traditional "namako" style walls and a view of the Kiso mountains, making the experience even more unique and extraordinary.
