From Tuesday, August 20, 2025 to Monday, September 30, 2025, we will be carrying out exterior wall construction on "Aki no Yakata."

During this construction, you will be unable to see outside from your room.

There may also be some noise.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

■ About Houshi – The Oldest Ryokan in the Hokuriku Region
The history of Houshi began alongside that of Mt. Hakusan, one of Japan's three most sacred mountains, which celebrated its founding over 1,300 years ago.
The story begins when Hakusan Daigongen, a mountain deity, appeared in a dream to Taicho Daishi—a great Buddhist monk undergoing rigorous training on Mt. Hakusan—and revealed the existence of a hidden sacred spring deep underground.

Following this divine message, Taicho Daishi journeyed to this land of Awazu and successfully unearthed the sacred spring. He then instructed his close disciple, Garyo Houshi, who had long served by his side, to build a hot spring inn at the site and entrusted him with its care. This was the origin of what is now known as "Houshi."
After Garyo Houshi’s passing, his adopted son, Zengoro, succeeded him as the second-generation caretaker. Since then, the inn has been operated solely by Houshi’s descendants, continuing for 47 generations—a rare tradition even on a global scale. To this day, the family faithfully preserves and protects the sacred spring.

[Sinsyun no Yakata/Chouga-no-ma] Semi-Deluxe Japanese & Western Style Room was renewed in 2022 and was newly equipped with a natural hot spring.
 
Floor plan: 12.5 tatami mat Japanese Style room + Twin Bedroom + semi-open-air bath with natural hot spring water

The Japanese & Western Style room with 12.5 tatami mat room and a bedroom is located in "Sinsyun no Yakata", which has the longest history of Hoshi. The building is designated as a "National Registered Tangible Cultural Property."

The room is on the first floor, and when you open the window, you can see the national registered monument and scenic spot garden created in the Edo period, which is a Chisen Kaiyu style, a style of Japanese garden with a path around a pond. 

*Please note that infants and children are not allowed to stay in Chouga-no-ma.

 Hot spring:
You will enjoy natural hot spring water in the open-air bath.
*Since the hot spring water is natural, the temperature may fluctuate. In that case, the water temperature will be adjusted with hot water or tap water. Please be aware of this before making a reservation.

*Sinsyun no Yakata is a wooden building, so the noise echoes.
For this reason, we do not accept children under elementary school age.
If you have children, please reserve a room other than Sinsyun no Yakata.

*The beds are equipped with Simmons mattresses for a comfortable sleep.
