About Hoshi, the oldest ryokan in Hokuriku Region:

Hoshi's 1300-year history began along with one of the Three Holy Mountains of Japan, Mount Haku.

The tale began when the god of Mount Haku, Hakuson Daigongen visited a Buddhist monk, Taicho Daishi in a dream and told him about the sacred spring deep under the ground.

Following the revelation of the god, Daishi discovered the spot in the nearby village Awazu - today's Ishikawa prefecture - and ordered his pupil Garyo Hoshi to build a guest house - Japanese call it a ryokan. This was the beginning of Hoshi.

Zengoro Hoshi, the adopted child of Garyo Hoshi, took over the business when Garyo Hoshi died. Since then, for nearly 1,300 years, the ryokan and its name have been passed down the family for 47 generations. This is one of the rarest things in the world.

The particular building is a special building built in the style of a palace made of cypress by carpenters specializing in shrines and palaces in the Meiji era (1869-1912).
It was built without using a single iron nail and has a high coffered ceiling, black lacquer-painted shoji screens, and gold flake sliding doors with agate handles, making it a breathtakingly elegant and beautiful guest room.
It is known as a special lodging facility, which has welcomed members of the imperial family of Japan, including the families of Prince Kaya, Prince Mikasa, and Princess Takamatsu, as well as VIPs of industry and culture.

*Enmeikaku is a traditional wooden building constructed during the Meiji era that offers the opportunity to experience classic Japanese architecture.
Please kindly note that, due to the historical nature of the building, room temperature control and certain modern facilities may be limited.
For guests who prefer a more comfortable stay with modern amenities such as air conditioning, we recommend booking a Deluxe Suite instead of Enmeikaku.

*Dinner and breakfast are served in the guest room.

*Please note that infants and children are not allowed to stay in Enmeikaku.

 Hot spring:
You will enjoy natural hot spring water in the hot tub made of cypress wood.
*Since the hot spring water is natural, the temperature may fluctuate. In that case, the water temperature will be adjusted with hot water or tap water. Please be aware of this before making a reservation.

*Please note that children are not allowed to stay in Enmeikaku.
