Former Kumagai Residence
This house was originally a two-story residence and barber shop standing at the entrance to a narrow traditional alleyway. It has been thoughtfully renovated into a single-story house while preserving the character of the original building.
The original pillars and beams have been retained and left exposed, allowing guests to appreciate the history and craftsmanship of the building. The dining area features a distinctive latticework ceiling that adds warmth and character to the space.
The outdoor porch deck provides a relaxing place to sit and take in the lush greenery that fills the surrounding alleyway.
Inside, the space is furnished with Japanese washi paper lighting, a wooden round dining table, and original chairs. A wooden lounge chair by the window offers another comfortable spot to relax and enjoy the view.
In addition to a fully equipped kitchen and dining area, the house features a private natural hot spring, sauna, cold plunge bath, and outdoor relaxation space.
The bathtub is made from Koya-maki (Japanese umbrella pine), a traditional wood prized for its beautiful aroma and water resistance.

Surrounded by the warmth of natural wood, each house offers a peaceful and relaxing space, complete with a Kirishima natural hot spring bath featuring a Koya-maki-style bathtub, as well as a sauna and cold plunge bath.
Enjoy a relaxing bathing experience at your own pace in the privacy of your own accommodation.
At the center of the four houses is a shared space featuring a traditional cooking area.
For an additional fee, you can enjoy freshly cooked rice prepared in a traditional Hagama rice pot, as well as Somen Nagashi, a popular Kagoshima-style flowing noodle experience.
Gather around the traditional Irori hearth and enjoy a unique opportunity to connect with fellow travelers and experience a memorable moment of Japanese hospitality.

Each house is equipped with an IH kitchen and cooking utensils.
With a supermarket and convenience store just a one-minute walk away, you can easily purchase fresh ingredients and enjoy Kirishima's local culinary delights even during stays of two nights or longer.
