Former Sakasegawa Residence
This renovated house preserves the original form of the approximately 60-year-old building while enhancing the covered engawa veranda space beneath the roof.
When the ceiling was removed during renovation, a beautiful structural framework was discovered beneath it. Rather than concealing it, the framework has been left exposed, creating a striking interior that allows guests to feel the history of the building.
As with the other houses, new insulation has been added to provide modern comfort while preserving the character and aged beauty of the original structure.
The interior combines the natural texture and atmosphere of the historic building with modern, industrial-style elements, including contemporary lighting, steel furniture, and a solid black cherry wood table with steel legs.
In addition to a fully equipped kitchen and dining area, the house features a private natural hot spring, sauna, cold plunge bath, and outdoor relaxation space.
The bathtub is made from Koya-maki (Japanese umbrella pine), a traditional wood prized for its beautiful aroma and water resistance.
