The name Kaikoji-cho comes from the fact that Kaikoji Temple was once located here.
Today, the area is popular with families for attractions such as Umekoji Park, Kyoto Aquarium, and Kyoto Railway Museum, but it has a rich history dating back to the mid-Kamakura period, when Kaikoji Temple was founded. After its destruction during the Onin War, it was relocated several times before becoming a sub-temple of Sennyu-ji Temple.
The interior of this property is based on this history, with the front desk featuring tiles reminiscent of stone walls and armor, evoking an era of war.
